By strengthening the ability of people to work together, the impact of Possibilities’ work reaches many and is long-lasting. Because each community has a unique vision, the results of Possibilities’ work vary from one area to another. Possibilities Innovation Program graduates (Community Innovators) are dynamic grassroots leaders whose innovative efforts to transform their communities achieve safer neighborhoods, stronger families, and economic growth throughout Oklahoma City and beyond. Some of the ways Possibilities Community Innovators transform our communities: • Volunteer and mentor students at local schoolsResults
• Serve on the State Parent Teacher Association Board, as well as at local school sites
• Serve on Smart Start Community Partnership Boards
• Offer truancy counseling for students and families
• Offer financial counseling for seniors
• Teach at an alternative high school
• Work to create formal neighborhood associations
• Serve as Board of Director members for Community Action Agency, Celebrations! & Possibilities
• Volunteer at churches
• Volunteer to improve foster care and promote adoption
• Volunteer for the NAACP Youth Advisory Counsel
• Serve as the President of OKC NAACP
• Provide job training and life skills
• Provide an after school program for teens, and healthy lifestyles information for the community
• Work with multi-neighborhood collaborations/coalitions
• Write and secure grants for lighting, signage, and landscaping
• Hold regular community building events i.e. block parties and movie nights
• Organize and carry out citizen crime patrols
• Organize and hold regular neighborhood clean-ups
• Serve as block captains and deliver neighborhood newsletters
• Serve as neighborhood association officers
• Provide Christmas baskets for isolated seniors
• Volunteer to teach community craft classes
• Volunteer to help with other graduates’ community projects
• Help coordinate the Weed & Seed program for the NE side
• Distribute Easter baskets to struggling families
• Distribute Mother’s Day baskets to isolated seniors
